In 2012, the DTM will already be taking on its 13th season since its restart in the year 2000 and is the start of a new era. With BMW, the third German premium car manufacturer is making its comeback in the most popular international touring car series and will thus be competing against Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
The introduction of new technical regulations in the 2012 season marks for Mercedes the next chapter in the DTM. The closing race of the 2011 season was also the last race contested by the AMG Mercedes C Class, the most successful DTM car of all time. In the 2012 season, Mercedes-Benz will respond to the changed circumstances with the launch the new DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé.
Eight cars are most likely to be entered by Mercedes. Susie Wolff, who is officially not announced yet is hoping to drive one of the new AMG Mercedes C-Coupé: “I am very proud to be part of the Mercedes family and hope to start again for them in the DTM in 2012. I am very motivated and preparing myself physically and mentally for the DTM,” said the Scot confidently.
The return of BMW also adds extra motivation: “To have BMW again in the DTM makes it even more competitive and close. This season should be a very exciting and interesting one!”
